Everyone always says they fight like cats and dogs. But sometimes that stereotype just…isn’t true. At least not for very long anyway. A viral video posted on Instagram by @goldenbearollie totally proves that.

Paloma, who is the Latina dog mom behind the account, decided to share exactly how her dog, a Golden Retriever named Ollie, and her orange cat, Cilio, finally figured things out. Their relationship didn’t start out perfectly. Obviously. But seeing them now? It literally makes you want to cry. This clip has over 467k likes because it is just that wholesome.

Owner captures how dog and cat’s relationship evolved with time in emotional video

The clip starts with the “before” part of their story. And Ollie is just this tiny Golden Retriever puppy. He walks up to Cilio on the floor, wanting to play. But this move totally startles the cat. Cilio swats at him and then tries to hide under the table. It is as if he is saying, “absolutely not.” However, Ollie doesn’t have any self-preservation instincts yet. So he just follows him under there.

He tries a play bow and then a full sploot, but the cat just moves away again. Ollie is just left there looking at a chair leg. He looks so rejected because his sibling doesn’t want to hang out.

Then the video cuts to the “now” part of their relationship. And it is just a complete montage of them being inseparable. One shot shows an older Ollie lying down. And Cilio is just resting his entire face right on his face, Christmas tree twinkling in the background. It’s a complete 180 for their relationship.

Then there are shots of them sleeping nose-to-nose and snuggling on a lap. Cilio completely fits in the crook of Ollie’s body now. The comments are full of people saying they are both orange and that they are family. The owner wrote “Who’s cutting onions” in the caption. Because honestly, it is so emotional. They are always touching paws or booping noses. In one especially sweet shot, Ollie is just smiling, lying next to Cilio, happy to be coexisting.

As we see in the video, the dog and the cat’s relationship has surely come a long way from those original swats. It just takes time, with some strategic hiding and setting up boundaries.
